Go somewhere new as much as possible.&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:85%;"&gt;Try a new foreign destination every year..we have done KL Batu, Camp5 a couple of times,so whats next? its time for karbi, do join us.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:85%;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:85%;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;2. Plan and motivate yourself.&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:85%;"&gt;Write down the boulder problems you can't do this time round and come back for remedial climbs. Look at the next few months ahead and plan your climbing around heavy periods of work, family commitments, weddings etc. Don’t just hope that fitness will magically happen, so be realistic about how you can fit your climbing into your life. Plan that trip to climb overseas – make sure the dream comes true.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:85%;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:85%;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;3. Hang out with motivated people who have the same approach to climbing as you.&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:85%;"&gt;The people you climb with will have an influence on your climbing. ask questions about your techniques, ways to train strength, endurance, etc. most importantly, hang out with fun and motivated climbers to keep your passion burning! example... regular climbers in UMC. ;p&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:85%;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;4. Incorporate aerobic exercise into your training.&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:85%;"&gt;Take up walking (walking to the to our bouldering room doesn’t count unless you do your rounds around NTU every evening), swimming, running. need to say more? &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:85%;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:85%;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;5. Work your weaknesses.&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:85%;"&gt;E.g. crimpers, pinchers, slopers, learn to climb dynamically, improve your flexibility. It’s obvious, but how many people really make an effort to do it?&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:85%;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:85%;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;6. As well as the physical, train the mental.&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:85%;"&gt;If you know you have a problem in your head e.g. not willing to go above your gear, always blowing routes 2 ft below the belay, always under-performing just when it matters, train your head as much as your finger strength. You might find it corny, but it might just help.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:85%;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:85%;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;7. Have a break!&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:85%;"&gt;You never know, this might be exactly what your body needs. If you are feeling like you are on a plateau, getting worse or not that motivated. Having a month off every year is good for your body and your climbing. and also join us for makan session every now and then, your body needs the yummy food!&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:85%;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:85%;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;8. Shock your system&lt;/strong&gt;.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:85%;"&gt;If you just do climbing, try bouldering and vice versa. Its well known that your body doesn’t respond and improve when its been doing too much of the same thing. Your body will really relish the change. So if you just redpoint hard routes the whole time, what about a period of onsighting at an easier level? If you just boulder the whole time, what about incorporating some routes into your average week? &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:85%;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:85%;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;9. Think about what you are pouring into your body.&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:85%;"&gt;Cut down on smoking &amp;amp; drinking(if you do...). Think about the food you take. Take stuff that will release energy throughout the day such as nuts, canned fish, oatcakes. Graze throughout the day. Sitting down to have a stack of sandwiches may actually slow you down as your body has to digest. Instead of chocolate, eat bananas for an energy boost.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:85%;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:85%;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;10. Scott, and sum up the usual advice given to complete novices fairly well.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;ol&gt;&lt;li&gt;When moving up, stay as close to the face (wall) as you can, the closer your centre of gravity is to the wall, the less your muscles have to work to hold you. If your body is vertical, then all you need to do is stand in place rather than cling to the rock. It helps to climb with the inside edge of your feet, not the toes, to achieve this.&lt;br /&gt;When resting (and you should do this often to look down and check your footholds) straighten your arms (so you don't tire them out) and lean back (ideally with handholds fairly high up).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Rely upon your legs more than your upper body strength. Your legs are much stronger than your arms so don't just try to act macho by pulling yourself up the face (wall), just stand up!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Bring one foot up at a time, this will reduce the wear on your hands.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Try to position your hands and feet on the holds in the positions you will want them in for the next move. This will reduce the amount of switching and improve your speed and skill by making you plan your next move.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Don't lean too far away from the wall when you are resting, when you are ready to continue it will just take more strength to pull your body back against the face. (This is more important on short climbs then long day climbs when there is more time to rest.)&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ol&gt;To learn good technique, you need to climb hard routes to push your boundaries, but don't forget you also need to climb easy ones on which to practise good technique. Lean weight includes the muscles, bones, tendons, ligaments, and water in the body. Body fat includes the fat stored in the fat cells and the organs of the body.When there is too much body fat, it acts as excess baggage for the body and can be a detriment to your health. People with a higher fat content, especially around the waist, are at a higher risk of heart disease.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style=";font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:85%;"  &gt;The percentage of body weight that is normal depends on your gender and your fitness level.&lt;br /&gt;Men: 10-20%&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style=";font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:85%;"  &gt;Women: 15-25%&lt;br /&gt;Athlete Men: 6-10%&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style=";font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:85%;"  &gt;Athlete Women: 10-15%&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;2. fact: exercise and proper nutrition can help lower the fat content of the body.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Exercise?&lt;br /&gt;There are two main ways, 1 is training the muscular system (involves strength training using any form of resistance such as free weights, your own body weight, machine weights, pilates or CLIMBING) Benefits include increased lean muscle, bone density, strength, muscular endurance, muscle tone and metabolism. You can also focus on specific muscle groups such as your butt, arms, legs, chest and back. 2 is cardiovascular exercise such as running, swim, boxing, biking and any activity that keeps you heart rate up and pumping.&lt;br /&gt;COMBINATION of both are important to reduce body fat percentage and overall fitness for climbing. so i suggest you people like mr goh should start running other than climbing ONLY. :p and this is also an evidence that cardio are important to be included in a usual climbing regime, so for those who reject the idea of doing Physical Training (PT), think twice.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Nutrition?&lt;br /&gt;a. more plain water, keep away soft drinks, or other drink with added sugar. u think that cup of teh taste good? think twice of the amount of condensed milk pour in.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;b. have a fruit of the day, if you find this troublesome, go to supermarket, buy a 6 apples in a pack and keep in beside your laptop ,munch on it everyday, and sunday you can get some other fruits.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;c. can't resist the temptation of going into 7-11 for late nite drink or snacks? then i suggest u get those drinks and stuff with the "healthier choice" logo by the health promotion board. they are lower in sugar level. and avoid chips or tibits that are deep fried, go for bake instead, and best sun baked. deep fried chips stored in packages contains high amount of trans fat which is a no-no.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style=";font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:85%;"  &gt;How do i calculate my body fats?&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style=";font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:85%;"  &gt;1. Skinfold Calipers (Callipers) &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style=";font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:85%;"  &gt;they are like clips that have to pinch ur skin in 3 areas of your body, you prob have to buy that instrument. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style=";font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:85%;"  &gt;&lt;br /&gt;2. Hydrostatic Weighing &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:85%;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;"&gt;You sit on a scale inside a tank of water and blow out as much air as you can&lt;br /&gt;You are dunked underwater, where you blow out even more air&lt;br /&gt;Since fat is lighter than water, the more fat you have, the more you'll float. The scale measures underwater weight to figure out body density.&lt;br /&gt;The margin of error is around 2-3%, but the accuracy depends on the amount of air you expel. You have to blow it ALL out or it won't be as accurate.&lt;br /&gt;This is a difficult way to measure body fat since it can be uncomfortable and even scary to be dunked underwater with no air in the old lungs.&lt;/span&gt; &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style=";font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:85%;"  &gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style=";font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:85%;"  &gt;3. Body Fat Analyzer&lt;br /&gt;A body fat analyzer uses bioelectrical impedance to measure your body fat versus lean body weight. The permit was obtained from the Registrar of Societies and a Constitution was drawn up. UMC was formed with two goals in mind:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;* To promote the sport of mountaineering (which includes rock-climbing, snow/ice climbing and trekking) among undergraduates and,&lt;br /&gt;* To contribute in raising the standard of technical climbing in Singapore.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The first president of UMC was Mr. Lee Tian Ching. With him was a management committee comprising a vice-president, an honorary general secretary, an honorary treasurer, a quartermaster and two ordinary committee members.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Today, the club has our own bouldering wall at &lt;a href="http://www.street-directory.com/ntu/campus.cgi?no=Sports+%26+Recreation+Centre+%28S+%26+R+CTR%29&amp;amp;map_search=nanyang&amp;amp;search.x=15&amp;amp;search.y=9" target="_blank"&gt;Sports &amp;amp; Recreation Centre Activity Room 4&lt;/a&gt; and focuses on bouldering and rockclimbing. The management committee currently consists of 10 people. Apart from weekly training at our bouldering wall, we also have occasional trips to rockwalls out of campus.
